Health and Safety
Mrs. Jennifer Johnson
BES Nurse
Emergency Response Plans that include staff trained to perform specific duties are in place at all Horry County Schools including Burgess Elementary. These plans exist in the form of Drills that are practiced and documented at intervals throughout the school year. Drills give us the opportunity to exercise our plans and make improvements based on input from team members and the changing needs of our student body each year.
Student Accidents/ Illness:
In case of an accident involving one of our students, first aid will be administered by our School Nurse or authorized First Responder. In all cases of serious accidents or illnesses, every effort is made to contact a parent/ guardian. It is therefore imperative that we have the most current contact information. In the event the School Nurse or other authorized school personal deems it appropriate/ necessary EMS will be called.
Medication Policy:
If a student should need to take medications throughout the school day, a parent or guardian must bring in the medication to the school nurse. Medications are not to be sent to school in the care of students. A Permission for School Administration Medication Form must be filled out for Prescription and Non-Prescription medications. The parent and or physician will need to fill out the HCS medication form prior to dropping off the medication at school. Over the counter medications must be in the original containers. Prescription medications will be brought to school appropriately labeled by the pharmacy and also in the original container. All medications will be kept in the health room to be administered by the school nurse or other authorized personnel.
